- פָּלַל(b. h.) to separate, divide. Pi. פִּילֵּל to arbitrate, intercede; trnsf. to pray. Sabb.55b (ref. to פ̇ח̇ז̇, Gen. 49:4) פִּ֗ילַּלְתָּה ח̇לתה ז̇רחהוכ׳ thou didst plead, thou didst pray, thy prayer rose Hithpa. הִתְפַּלֵּל, Nithpa. נִתְפַּלֵּל (denom. of תְּפִלָּה) to pray. Ber.V, 1 להִתְפַּלֵּל, v. כּוֹבֶד. Ib. היו שוהים … ומִתְפַּלְּלִים used to tarry a while (in meditation) and then say the prayers. Ib. IV, 3 יִתְפַּלֵּל שמונה עשרה should pray the eighteen benedictions. Ib. 4 מִתְפַּלֵּל תפלה קצרה says a short prayer.
